I Am...

I am but a whisper upon the speck of earth,
a small particle of being in a world of infinite space
that reaches up and out for sensibility and fulfillment.

Tear filled moments reflecting on who I am after she is gone,
my mentor, my teacher, my horizon, my mother.

I am filled with sorrow, though the months have crept away
to more than a year since it was over,
the long, drawn-out moments of dark despair
spent in endless hallways of hospitals,
filled with eternal machines who's sounds will never be forgotten.

I am alone...praying at the alter of my heart
as memories flood my spirit of a lost soul
whose courage and fortitude battled on,
despite the wounds that went untold for so long.

I am a soldier of sorts who remains
though tattered and torn by the tides of fortune
and weepy and inconsolable in the narrow reaches of my being,
a silent sorrow that lives forever.

I am for I need to be,
for now, for then and again forever.
