Cleaning your home can be as hard or as difficult as you make it. Similarly it can be done as quickly and briefly as possible or almost take over your life. Personally I would say that you need to find a happy medium on both counts. One that suits you and your family and you need to lay down a few golden rules.
GOLDEN RULES.
1-Everything has a place and everything is returned to that place after use.
2-Everyone who lives in the home contributes to the dirt and clutter and so everyone has some chores.
3-Items that are no longer needed or used are either sold, given away or disposed of.
4-Each person puts their dirty laundry into the appropriate basket straightaway.
These four golden rules, plus anymore of your own, will help to make the task of cleaning easier. There will be less clutter left lying around, your cupboards will not be overflowing with junk and the tasks will be less hard on one person.
ROTAS
Well I know it is your home and not the army but sometimes rotas or lists are needed. This makes it easier for each person to know what is expected of them and when. It also means that unpleasant chores such as emptying rubbish or cleaning the toilet are not always just down to one person.
METHOD
Find the best method of cleaning for you. I like to start at the top and work my way down. This applies to each room as well as the house. I clean light fittings, curtains and windows first so that any dust and dirt which floats down will get cleaned away at once.
Heavy curtains can be easily cleaned and freshened with a small hand held steamer. Obviously you would not clean your windows until that chore is done. I then dust and polish before I vacuum or sweep the floor. I suppose if you have solid floors without carpets you should sweep before dusting furniture. However if you give your cleaning method some thought you will find the best way for you and your home.
MY METHOD
If I am cleaning upstairs I:-
Take of any dirty bed linen and along with the contents of the laundry basket and dirty towels throw them all to the bottom of the stairs. You can see why I start upstairs now!.
I would then put whichever cleaning product I am using at present in the bath, sinks and toilet. This way I can start some other tasks whilst these products start to work.
I would then dust and vacuum each room at a time.
If my golden rules have been obeyed then cleaning should be a breeze as there will be no clutter in the way.
I usually do the bathroom last upstairs and then vacuum and dust the stairs, not
