Magpies

All the magpies came in two's
the day before I got the news
and then today I saw one, it flashed
it's wings across the sun and then was gone.

The news I knew was then no good
although how a wretched magpie could
know more than all the sawbones should
remains a mystery.

Did God at his quirky best in the magpie
somehow a invest a special power, a gift
maybe that allows him and not us to see the
full hand of our destiny?

I only ask in case it's true that in creating
me and you he left a little of the stew to share
with those around us who would keep the secret
from us well and of our futures never tell
