Essential advice for new college students

As a first-time college student, your journey will be a constant learning experience. However, this article is to brief you on a few things you may want to know before continuing your education on a higher level.

College is no joke, although you may have your share of fun, do not forget the main reason why you are there. Choose your friends wisely. Once you align yourself with dedicated and hard-working people, you will not be as likely to fail or miss classes because of excessive party habits. When I first arrived to college I had no idea of this, and in time I had to learn many things the hard way. Yes it can be good times when you are partying or mingling with attractive people, but you must keep in line with your responsibilities. Friends can either make you or break you. The people you hang around with, whether you know it or not, influence your decisions. This is why you should find the most intelligent people who share the same interests as you. You do not have to perceive yourself as a "nerd" when you are studying all the time, because it is imperative that you are always ahead of the rest of the class.

Living on campus is an experience like none other. When you take up residence on a college campus, it is definitely a stage of self-discovery. This previous year's college freshmen can vouch for the major adjustments they have made from moving out of their parents' dwelling to living with roommates on campus. Depending on your parents' level of strictness, it is nonetheless a freedom that is enjoyed. You may enjoy your newfound privacy and distance away from your guardians. However, let me tell you firsthand that you will miss them greatly when you realize how messy and unsanitary your roommates could be. Also, it is good to have your own mini-refrigerator unit if you share an apartment/dorm because your food/beverages may be consumed without your knowledge or permission.

While you are on campus, you should get involved in extracurricular activities such as clubs and events. It looks good on your profile when you do more than just attend classes. Whether you are at a small school or a big school, try to attend some athletic events as well and show your school spirit. This totally enhances your stay on campus.

Relationships can make pleasant companionship, but it could also make for uncomfortable living. My suggestion is that if you are living in a dorm, do not date someone from your same dorm building. In the event that it does not work out between the
