Direct marketing is often regarded as a more efficient way to communicate your product to customer since by doing this your messages is delivered right to your prospective customer directly through some personal channel like e-mail, mail, or even phone-call. Unlike in-direct marketing which you deliver the message to the public as general through mass media such as television, magazine and newspaper, direct marketing in some other way doesn't cost as much as the previous one.
Unfortunately, many company don't take seriously when it deals with direct marketing. Most of them just spend their budget inefficiently by sending as much e-mail or mail as they can and expect direct response from the customer without appropriate strategy which then end up in getting their business image ruined, since those individuals ignore the message that is, when most of direct marketing activity end up as spams and junk mails. So ironic, business got stucked as the sales don't go anywhere.
Of course you don't want this to happen, right? Then what should you do to win your customer by using direct marketing approach? Here we go:
1.Don't forget the basic principle of marketing: market segmentation. You have to decide and
know your customer precisely. It is so important to match to whom your product should be
offered and what kind of approach you are going to take.
2.Choose the appropriate channel. Once you already know your customer then pick the best
channel that best suits your prospective customer: direct e-mail marketing or mail
marketing.
3.It should be noted that spamming is not allowed at all since it will just ruin your
business. If you plan to do direct e-mail marketing, why don't you start by joining certain
mailing list related to your product? You can also start from blogger community to
introduce your product more personally and broaden your direct on-line marketing network as
well.
4.If you use direct mail marketing approach, just imagine what kind of envelope you're
willing to open and read. The use of elegant non-white color and handwriting address will
be helpful. But that's just first step, because the most important thing is about how to
get it read not just open it. Here is the point, don't include so many company's name and
logo in your mail or it will looks like a "freak-marketer" letter.
5.Choose the appropriate way of delivering your message. In most cases sympathetic,
emotional, friendly, and persuasive sentences work really well. Remember not to deliver the
message as if you are teaching somebody. However once again, choose the most appropriate
one since some those kind of message could work for some people.
If sales is merely about hand your product over to the customer and increase your revenue, marketing is about how to build public awareness, get them triggered to buy and keep their loyalty. That's why it should be handled carefully and strategically, and so is direct marketing.
