The nutritional benefits of bananas

We all know that bananas are loaded with potassium but not many people know that they're a good source of fiber as well. One 7-inch banana has 4 grams of dietary fiber, which is 16% of the daily recommended value. Bananas are even a great source of vitamin B6 since they provide 20% of your daily recommended value. They even have 16% of the vitamin C that you need every day. Also as important is the fact that bananas are loaded with Iron which helps increase the production of hemoglobin in the body.

Bananas are also loaded with antioxidants, which helps reduce the risk of kidney cancer. If you have a family history of kidney cancer, bananas are the perfect fruit for you to eat.
Since bananas are high in potassium but low in sodium, they help reduce the risk of high blood pressure. In fact, the FDA now allows the banana industry to claim that bananas help reduce the risk of having a stroke. In fact, they can reduce the risk of a stroke as much as 40% if they're a regular part of the diet. When it comes to heartburn, bananas are a natural antacid and are a lot cheaper than pills or tablets. Bananas have also been proven to keep blood-sugar levels up, so they help avoid morning sickness. Pregnant women especially need lots of potassium and fiber, and they're much better for the fetus than unnatural remedies.

Since bananas contain protease inhibitors that help eliminate bacteria in the stomach, which are pinpointed as a primary cause of ulcers, they can help get rid of ulcers quickly and help keep them from coming back. Even if you don't have an ulcer, having bacteria in your stomach can lead to digestive and intestinal problems which are not fun to have either. Bananas are the only fruit that will make your stool harder. Apples will do it too, but only in the form of applesauce which has sugar and preservatives.

Need more reasons to eat bananas? They're inexpensive, can be carried anywhere, they're not sticky or watery, and they can be found during any season. Bananas are the most portable fruit there is since you don't have to worry if you drop an unpeeled banana. The next time you're out grocery shopping, don't forget to stock up on bananas.
