Nutritional benefits of pears

With the growing focus on weight loss and body image in today's society, the word "pear" has become synonymous with body shape. However, the fruit's shape is not the only link that it has to health; it also has excellent nutritional benefits that can put you on the road to getting in the best shape that you can.

Pears are high in fiber and contain valuable nutrients such as vitamins B2, C, E, copper and potassium. They are also very high in pectin, a type of water-soluble fiber that is beneficial in lowering cholesterol and strengthening the intestines, as well as vitamin K, which has been linked to prevention of osteoporosis. Those that have fruit allergies have less to fear with adding pears to their diet; they are generally hypoallergenic and are much milder on the digestive system than other fruits are. Eating three servings of fruit daily has been linked to a decreased risk for age-related macular degeneration (or loss of sight due to aging); add two more servings, and you can be aiding in weight loss. Pears are recommended as an excellent source of cancer-fighting antioxidants by nutritionists and health care specialists. And to top it all off, they make excellent additions to almost any meal. They are a natural addition to any fruit salad, and can be an innovative, yet elegant touch to dishes such as grilled salmon.

So many benefits in one delicious little package! With less than 100 calories per piece, there's no way you can go wrong. Anyway you slice it, a pear can be a great addition to your diet that can help you to look and feel your best.
