Reflections: Cat ownership experiences

Up until recently we had 5 cats in the house. As anyone with even one cat knows this could lead to hours of hilarity for the pet owner, and it truly has. Each has their own personality, and it shines through constantly.

2 weeks ago we added to our family with a small 6 week old kitten. She is Black and White and much more fluffy then the other 5. We decided to name her Sudoku. Although she seemed rather calm on the way to her new home, once inside she found refuge under our bed. Although I suppose meeting 5 new cats for something so small would be overwhelming.

With this new kitten, our cat's personalities shine through more then ever. Widget, my 8 month old tabby cat, has found himself a playmate and apparently has regressed back to kittenhood. While he as always been my shadow, he has decided that he would rather be the baby of the house. He also fancies himself a ladies man (cat). Wind up, a year old female calico, doesn't like the idea of sharing her Widget (whom has always been her best friend), while she is not mean to the kitten, she ignores her in general. Wiley is a two year old tabby that is very skittish and even more so around this little bundle of fur, or new people for that matter. Unless he is sleeping, then he doesn't seem to mind the little bundle using him as a pillow. However, he is nothing but kind to Sudoku.

We also have two twins, Locket and Sprite. They are actually quite similar, and if it wasn't for Sprite's instance at being vocal it be near impossible to tell them apart. However, Locket is more motherly, as she demonstrated with Widget and the new kitten. Well actually, Sprite is rather bug eyed, but I am sure her pride would be hurt is she knew we said such things, both girls are little divas. (and a little in love with my mirror.)

Sudoku is no longer skittish. She climbs everything and her favorite way of saying hi is to attack the other cat's tail. She also knows she is cute, and is constantly trying to wrap us and Widget around that little paw.

A new kitten in the house guarantees added energy to those who already inhabit your house, and our house is a colourful array of circus acts and cuddly moments, only enhanced by our newest addition. This includes 6 am wake up calls for attention/food, and late night Indy 500 races in our living room. Needless to say the fun, cute and fluff has only been enhanced in our house.
