When my old bank North Fork switched over to Capital One I wasn't sure what that would mean for my online banking. I used the North Fork bank online banking almost everyday. I was concerned that Capital One online banking wouldn't be as good as what I was used to. Well, Capital One sure proved me wrong. Capital One online banking is even better! All you have to do is go to www.capitalone.com and you can have all of your banking done with a touch of a button.
When you open the web page, it will prompt you to sign in if you are already a registered user. If you aren't then you need to register. Registering is so simple. They will ask you your ID number and then have you pick passwords and security questions. Once you answer all of the prompted questions then you are all set to log in. You can log in right away, you don't have to wait 24 hours for it to take effect.
Once you are logged in then you can navigate the website in different ways. I personally have three bank accounts registered. You can pick the bank account you want to look at through their drop down menu. Once you choose the account, it will display all of your recent transactions. You can go as far back as one year of recorded transactions. I recently needed to print out a year's worth of past transactions and it was so simple to do. All you have to do is keep pressing the back 30 days button and it will show you monthly your past transactions. I did this for all three of my accounts. You can do this for all checking and savings accounts.
Another great feature is that you can transfer money from one account to another. I usually transfer money from savings to checking a few times a month and it clears automatically. Here again you don't have to wait 24 hours for your transfer to go through. The only thing you can't transfer is money out of a minor's bank account. You can transfer money in the minor's account, but not out. I think this is a safety and security issue.
When you look at your checking transactions, you can even see the ones that are pending. Sometimes I can see a pending transaction that I totally forgot I debited. This helps keep me on track with my record keeping. I also use direct deposit for my paycheck. This too goes on automatically and clears instantly, no waiting. This is great when I need to write a check quickly or even make an online payment that is almost due. I used to have to call the bank to make sure my checks cleared, not anymore. Now I can pop right on
