Those of us that were fortunate (or perhaps unfortunate) enough to go to our Proms remember it as being a special occasion. A Passover of sorts and the last big dance before adult-mania begins to sit in. Some of us were notably brilliant in the way we asked our dates out, while others may have meant well, but just weren't as slick or stylish. Mustering the courage to ask anyone literally anywhere can be a chore in and of itself.

But making sure you ask the right way, at least as the Prom is considered, well, that makes all the difference. You never want to look back on that tiny piece of history with any form of regrets.

Rule of thumb: Don't be a bore. Don't be transparent to the point where it is obvious (to everyone but you) that you are biting off of someone else's calling card. Be original. Be yourself. If you aren't James Bond, then it isn't probably to your best interest to act as if you were. You want your date to be so impressed by your own effort and ingenuity that he or she is very much charmed.

Moreover, you want it to be done in a way where it is lighthearted and fun. How you view asking your date out, has as much to do with its success; then you might think. Come on, get your creative juices flowing and don't marginalize how important creativity is.
Here are a few tips that can set you on your path.

Sing-a-gram: This is my personal fave of all of the tips that I am about to address to you. If you can sing (or know someone that sings reasonably well) then doing so, in my opinion, would score HUGE points! Music has been said to be the most influence in the world (not named love and hate) and, if you can sing, it really puts you in a class of your own. It shows you really thought asking your date out through. And, on the other hand, having a singing voice is just something that is held in high regard. It is universally cool!

Morning Announcements: Yesthe morning announcements. I went there. Hey, why not utilize the airwaves? Assuming your date is not taking their senior skip day it would be a nice gesture to work a little of your magic, and have someone that controls the PA system, ask out your potential beau for you. Or, you could just do it yourself depending on your level of comfort.

Fake Engagement Ring: Hmm, I am too good. But seriously, this is a good way to draw your potential date in. He or she may look at the black box in total astonishment at first, but after they open it up, they probably, will come back down to earth. It will totally surprise them!

They may at first do their best impression of the Home Alone kid, ya know, after he applied after shave. However, in the end it will be seen as a very slick move.

Flowers: The 2 for 1 special. You can bring your date flowers with a note inside asking that person out. Ladies, this will work extremely well for you, since well, ya know, when is the last time a man ever got a bushel of flowers? I rest my case. He will be knocked off guard and then-some.

Chalkboard: Make sure you get there before everyone else. This must be timed to perfection. Grab some chalk and pop the question on the chalkboard, this will really grab their attention. Additionally, it will let other potential predators know, he or she is clearly in your sights.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to your personal specifications. FYI, I never used any of those methods while I was in high-school, but it might have been something if I really did. Those ideas came from me just recently. Make it fun. Make it hip. Cultivate your style in a way where you come off very mysterious, yet sincere. That always works the best.
