America is fascinated with celebrities. We want to know what they wear, what they eat, who they date, and every other minute detail of their lives. Many of us purchase tabloids and gossip magazines to stay up to date on the hottest stories of our favorite celebrities. Some of us even risk becoming obsessed. Most of us can't differentiate whether we are obsessed or not, so described here today are the obvious signs.
1. You begin to keep a scrapbook of your favorite celebrity. Now scrapbooks are great, they help you remember important events and time with loved ones. But having a scrapbook on a celebrity is dangerous territory. It starts with a small book where you keep your favorite pictures and articles on your heart throb but quickly catapults into a giant periodical documenting every move of his life that you can find. Excerpts from movie ads, websites, magazines, newspapers, even books end up in this celebrity bible. It grows so fast that you soon have several editions and have to clean out a closet just to store them.
2. You begin to memorize every movie or commercial that they are in. This can seem harmless at first, but when you start to get upset at your friends because they are saying it differently than your heart throb says it in the movie, you've crossed the line.
3. You begin to quiz yourself on your scrapbooks to see if you can quote what was said by your heart throb on March 4th, 1995. If you get it wrong, you instantly become frustrated and hit yourself on the head several times repeating "idiot, I should have known that!" Yeah, you've clearly become obsessed if this happens.
4. You bow down to movie posters that your now obvious obsession is in. This is just wrong and weird!
5. You write your own pledge of allegiance to your heart throb and repeat it every day to his poster. Once you've reached this level of obsession, it is difficult to return to the real world. It takes an intervention.
You might be asking yourself how I know so much about this topic. It's quite simple really; I have graduated from the twelve step program of overcoming your celebrity obsession. Trust me when I say that you do not want to have to go through this. If you can, avoid the situation from happening in the first place. If you're already on the road to obsession, then I pray that your friends and family will pull you back in to reality!
