name of Scud played by Norman Reedus. Whistler and he do not get on and there is almost a jealousy theme. In the end it is Whistler who has the last laugh as Reedus betrays Blade and then is extinguished himself. BLADE TRINITY made in 2004 and directed by David Goyer was an overload of the first two films. Unfortunately the freshness of the first film was absent in this 3rd outing. Wesley Snipes and Kris Kristofferson return acting their socks off in their respective roles and the addition of some very fine acting from the likes of Parker Posy (Best in Show), comedy attempts by Ryan Reynolds (Definately, Maybe) and Dominic Purcell (Equilibrium) as the very deep voiced Drake plus the nubile Jessica Beil (The Illusionist) do nothing to distract the viewer from finding comparisons with the first and best Blade film. If one can forget the original Blade then this film is watchable. Throughout the three movies it is the music that remains the same. The thump of drum and bass carries the films where the acting and action cannot. While only the first of the Blade franchise stays in its comic book frame of mind the second veers slightly and the third is simply the machinations of the writers mind.
THE CROW. First appeared in Caliber Comics 1989.
Originally made in 1994 with the late Brandon Lee as Eric Draven it is a beautifully scripted and acted comic book adaptation. Directed by Alex Proyas this film is a triumph and a must see for any comic book hero films. Lee plays Draven with sensitivity and style. At the onset of the film Draven is killed alonside his girlfriend. The murderers are a gang led by Michael Wincott (Alien Resurrection) as Top Dollar, a very creepy and well dressed villain. Draven is brought back to life a year after his murder and embarks on a bloody and vengeful spree filled with action, smouldering sexiness and eventually victory. The music is wonderful and graces the action so closely and beautifully. Another film I could go on and on about but suffice to say that although there have been other Crow films since, nothing and no-one can beat the original or Brandon Lee in the lead role. This film is loyal and unswervingly truthful to The Crows comic book conception.
V for VENDETTA. It is not clear when V first made an appearance but the story was written by Alan Moore in a 10 series comic book form in 1980's-1990's Alan Moore has now disassociated himself from the film. Nonetheless the film has its loyalty to Moores comics.
