BEGINS entered our Cinemas. Chistopher Nolan directed and he turned the franchise round single handedly with Christian Bales tormented Batman. This film is highly regarded as the ultimate Batman movie. It is dark, unforgiving but has humour, just what a Comic book film should be. The eagerly awaited 2008 release of THE DARK NIGHT promises to blow our socks off. Again directed by Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale (arguably the best ever Batman) is back. This time is even more personal. Michael Caine (Alfie), Gary Oldman (5th Element) and Cillian Murphy (28 Days Later) return once again along with the late Heath Ledger (Knights Tale) stepping into Jack Nicholsons Joker shoes. It promises to be faster and even darker. Let's hope so. The comic book adaptation of all of these films is no more apparent than in Tim Burtons contributions.
HELLBOY. First appeared-San Diego Comic-Con #2 1993.
In 2004 Guillermo del Toro brought Hellboy to large, red and witty life. A demon infant is rescued from the Nazis and is brought up by John Hurts Professor of Paranormal and his band of Demon Fighters. 60 years later after our Hellboy played by Ron Pearlman (apparently the ONLY person to be considered) has lived clandestinely underground at the Paranormal Institute and fallen in love with Selma Blairs fire woman Liz Sherman, his parent is back in the form of Rasputin and he's mad as hell. What ensues is Rasputin attempting to remind the now kitten loving, horn shearing Hellboy of his birthright in bringing about the overturn and eventual rule of the planet. Of course it doesn't work. This film is Comic book. It has it all, comedy, love, romance, action, horror and one of the most evil, beautifully dressed and spine chilling villains ever in Ladislav Berans Karl Kroenen. A sheer joy to watch time and time again. HELLBOY 2 The golden Army is due in Cinemas August 2008. The same leading cast as before, Ron Pearlman and Selma Blair (The Fog) are back and this time the inclusion of Luke Goss (Blade 2), once of the band Bros is playing a leading part as Prince Nuada. The premise is the same, the comedy, love, action and horror are still there and Hellboys is still easily some of the best comic book make-up adaptation. But the villains are even more nasty if that's possible. I have my seat booked!
SIN CITY. First appeared in Dark Horse Presents Comic 1991
I adored this comic and I adore the film. Reading like a Who's who of actors the film is a collaboration between Frank Miller, Robert
