To understand Constant-Content's (CC) payment system, you need to know how its pricing structure works. The pricing structure for sale of content at CC is a three-tiered one. Writers have the option of selling their articles for rights as follows:
Usage Rights
Usage rights means that essentially the buyer purchases a copy of your article on the understanding that it is (almost undoubtedly) posted elsewhere on the Web (i.e. on the writer's blog, or at a site such as Helium), or has been published in a newspaper/journal/magazine. A customer purchasing an article for usage rights can use it only once and cannot edit it in any way. If the writer has included his or her name in the article's by-line, then this has to remain in place when the article is posted or printed. The article remains on CC's site where it can be purchased by other customers. It's possible to sell an article a number of times on CC for usage rights only. The writer retains all rights to the article.
Unique Rights
When a customer buys an article with a unique rights license it means that he or she has the only copy of that particular article. Once sold, the article is immediately removed from CC's site. A unique rights license, however, does not give the customer permission to change the article in anyway. As with a usage rights license, buying an article for unique rights does not entitle the customer to remove the writer's name if he or she has included it in the article's by-line.
Full Rights
Buying an article with a full rights license enables the customer to do exactly as he or she pleases with the article; they can treat is in very much the same way they could if they themselves had written it. The customer can edit the article and present it as having been written by him- or herself. The customer can even re-sell if they so wish. The article is immediately removed from CC's site once the sale's taken place.
Regardless of how much an article sells for, CC will take 35 percent of the sale price in commission costs. Some think that's this is a hefty cut, but you need to bear in mind what you're getting for your money: a reputable market for your work where your articles will be promoted and a thorough editing process are just two of the benefits you get for your money at CC.
All payment at CC is in US dollars. This feature of CC's payment system will cause no problems for the majority of writers there, as they're American citizens and use the US dollar. However, CC does have a number of writers from other countries, and these writers have to take into account the conversion rate of the US dollar to their own country's currency when setting the sale price of their content.
Once an article is sold, a writer is notified by email (if they choose to opt into this facility). It's also possible to check the latest twenty or so articles that have sold at CC (if you're a member), and the sale price of these articles. You can also check the balance of your account at any time.
Payment is made at the beginning of each month directly into a writer's PayPal account, providing the account is credited with a minimum of USD 50. If you write regularly for CC, then it's reasonable to expect to reach, if not exceed, the minimum account balance of USD 50 most months.
