Poetry: Nature

Epitaph Of A Tree

Sittting peacefully by a quiet stream,
I feel the solitude, and my mind is at ease.
I let my mind wander - as if carried in a dream,
Floating and dancing, carried by a soft, gentle breeze.

I was heaven and earth, and everything around,
And my body was one with the earth,
I was now a part of the ground.
My frame was majestic, and flowed with gentle grace,
My arms reached out strongly - and in winter,
Were filled and patterned with delicate lace.
I was the home for many, and stronghold for some,
To the fearful animals I could whisper -
"Don't be afraid - You may come!"
Yet, I was dying slowly, from a terrible disease,
And when the woodcutters appeared,
And did their work - I fell with ease.
I had seen much history ... felt its many blows,
And as they did their work, I realized -
My roots are strongly anchored - and someday,
Maybe someday - they will anchor deeper ...
And again .... I'll grow.
