A beautiful smile is an asset! Yet many of us tend to ignore our teeth until decay, gum disease and ulcers appear. What many also fail to realize is that when we ignore our teeth, bad bacteria can form within the mouth which turns to toxins.
The old adage "prevention is better than cure," is certainly a wise sentence. Preventative tooth care is simple and assists in keeping those pearly whites' in top condition. Dental care will soon become second nature. Not only will you avoid the discomfort of painful toothaches etc, you get to keep your teeth for many years to come.
DIET: Sugar and healthy teeth do not mix well. Sugar causes decay so less is definitely better. Raw vegetables and fruits, such as carrots, celery and apples are said to strengthen the teeth. Apples in particular, are good emergency teeth cleaners, so is a quick rub with salt on the fingers. Steer clear from sodas which are laces with sugar. Read the sugar rations in all foods and drink plenty of milk which is full of enamel strengthening calcium. Honey sits on the teeth for quite some time to eat away at the enamel. So mothers, forget about giving your baby pacifiers drenched in this.
BRUSH & FLOSS: Brush your teeth immediately after eating whenever possible, yet brushing alone is not a sufficient means of dental hygiene, you will also need to use dental floss. Foodstuff gets trapped between teeth so you will need to dislodge this. Ask your dentist how to use this correctly and how to brush correctly. Use a toothbrush which is highly recommended by dentists, one which has bristles in various lengths and density.
MOUTHWASH: Some mouthwashes do more harm than good; many generic brands are laced with sweeteners to give them an attractive taste. Leave these at the grocers and simply rinse the mouth with salt and water. DENTAL CHECKS: Having your teeth regularly checked by a dentist is all part of good oral health.
An annual visit is recommended for adults while children are more prone to rapid tooth decay. Children should see a dentist at least every six months. Dental checks will incorporate mouth x-rays, dental history, and a check for overbites, overcrowded teeth, gum disease and so forth.
