The Benefits of Eating Fat
Can eating fat make us healthy? Omega 3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids and they are part of certain types of fatty foods. They are essential to our health, but cannot be manufactured by our bodies; therefore, omega-3 fatty acids can only be acquired by eating foods rich in certain fats and oils. Foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids are certain fishes, plants, and nuts. The three significant types of omega 3 fatty acids that are in some fatty foods are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). When we consume these fats, our bodies later converts ALA to EPA and DHA, the two types of omega-3 fatty acids are more readily used in our bodies. Scientific research reveals that omega-3 fatty acids offer several health benefits to people who regularly consume foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids.
First, foods rich in omega 3 can improve cardiovascular health in some people. Omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to work wonders for your heart and the many miles of arteries and veins that make up your cardiovascular system. While increasing good HDL cholesterol, omega 3 fatty acids can help to lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure. For many us, this omega 3 effect may add years to our lives.
Second, eating omega 3 foods causes less pain and inflammation in some people. The EPA omega 3 fatty acids have a positive effect on human inflammatory response. By several mechanisms, they regulate the body's inflammation cycle, thus preventing and relieving painful conditions such as arthritis, prostatitis, and cystitis.
Third, consuming omega 3 foods may offer protection from strokes and heart attacks in some people. Plaque causes a thrombosis when it builds up on arterial walls, which is simply a blood clot. When a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and if it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Omega 3 fatty acids break up some clots before they can cause any internal physical damage.
And fourth, consumption of omega 3 rich foods improves brain function and intelligence in some people. Although supplementation with omega 3 fatty acids will not create the next Einstein, Newton, or Hawkin, pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence of their babies because omega 3 assist in the development of a child's brain before, during, and shortly after birth. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning, comprehension, and focus. Some people may believe they are getting younger and smarter.
In summary, eating just any kind of fat is unhealthy for any person because there are good fats and bad fats. Omega 3 fatty acids are the good fats. Studies are published monthly because the scientific community discovers more about omega 3 fish oil benefits. We must ensure that we are getting adequate amounts of omega-3 with EPA and DHA fatty acids in our diet to prevent disease and prolong our lives. Therefore, although most fats are unhealthy, omega 3 fatty acid foods contain the healthy fats we need to consume.
