Creative prom trips for the boys:
Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and now the ever-popular Enchanted. All of these movies provide young girls a charming, unrealistic idea of romance at a young age so that when they reach the age where boys are no longer "cooties", but "cuties", they anticipate a fairy-tale romance. Hilary Duff's movie, A Cinderella Story, further enhances this type of romance and romancer teenage girls yearn for, especially during prom season.
For the teenage boys, unless they were blessed with sisters, their afternoons were likely filled with episodes of Spider man or Ninja Turtles. Although they probably heard the stories of Disney's princesses' and princes' living "happily ever after", they probably do not understand the appreciation a girl will have when intentional and deep thought is placed into asking her to prom.
Prom is different than getting engaged; however, high school girls appreciate it just as much when a guy goes out of his way to make her feel special when he asks her to prom. The pop-the-question over a text message or a Face-book message is not something that a girl will want to tell her friends. To avoid this, creative thinking is vital.
In order to save money to purchase her ticket and her flower, find out what her favorite breakfast meal is, and then make it for her and either show up at her house to bring her to school in the morning, or ask her to meet you a few minutes prior to school. If it is a pancake, write "Will you go to prom with me?" on the inside flap of the box, or if she's a chocolate lover, on the pancakes themselves with chocolate syrup.
Here are some other creative alternatives that lightplanet.com offers:
"Inflate your Date's Ego: Write your date information on small slips of paper (time, place, date, type of dress, etc.) then slip each one into a different balloon. Inflate the balloons and tie them together with ribbon or make a bouquet out of them. Deliver to your date's house, classroom, or work."
"Goldfish in the Bathtub: Leave several goldfish in their bathtub. Leave a note saying, "Of all the fish in the sea, I chose you to go to the prom with."
"Piata: Put the question in a piata with lots of candy."
Of course, there is always the serenading approach as seen in movies where the guy sings a song outside of the girl's window. Another option is to include her parents by paying for a personal ad in the paper asking her to prom, and then getting them to show it to her in the morning.
Whatever creative way is done, make it a lasting memory, if not for you, but your date!
