Creative ways to ask a date to prom

Asking someone to prom can be awkward and difficult (it certainly was for me.) So why not inject some creativity into the situation to alleviate the pressure?

The romantic solution can't fail. Your intended will be flattered (unless they are self-centered and thus undeserving of your advances anyway.) It will be much easier for them to say yes or no and likely easier for you to take the possible rejection if you've made a sincere effort at romance. Attaining this is not easy, but requires a certain finesse. It's hard to pull off a one-kneed offering of a bouqet of flowers without coming across as clichd or trying too hard. However, other options are available. You might try a goofy card with a silly picture of yourself looking lovestruck, perhaps surrounded by Valentine's hearts and gazing rapturously into the distance. A caption along the lines of "thinking of us together at prom" would strike the right chord. For the shier type this has the added benefit of not having to directly look the person in the eyes and ask them out. Instead you can hand them the card and then stare off to the side while the person reads it. If you want to give them a little more freedom to formulate an appropriate response, you can get someone else to hand them the card.

The key is to channel your silly and goofy side into a romantic presentation of love. Another possibility is to get a Barbie and Ken doll, then create clothing for each of them to wear, perhaps appropriate to the styles of dress of yourself and your intended. Then recruit the friends of your date-to-be to slowly hand over the dolls and their accoutrements during different periods of the day. You could even instruct them to carry a message such as, "these are *you're name here's* illin' shades." Or "this skirt is for *intended's name here's* delightful hips." Admittedly requiring a little too much effort for someone you barely know, this could be highly effective if you and your intended date are reasonably acquainted and he or she has a reasonable expectation that you are angling for him or her. Truly, no man or woman's heart could resist these kinds of advances and he or she will be hard pressed to say no.

So I hope this gets the creative juices flowing. My hope is that you won't follow my ideas to the letter, but rather use them to construct your own unique and romantic solution to the prom problem. Now you're ready to go out there and have a ball!
