Anxious about hitting the beach because your body's not model-perfect? Don't be! Summer isn't just for hot bods; we normal people are licensed to enjoy it, too. Stop stressing and enjoy the season with these confidence-boosting tips:
* Work around your best asset
Everyone has a feature they consider their best asset. Emphasize yours. Got great legs? Wear shorts to show off those gams. Got eyes gorgeous? Wear colors that make them stand out. Pretty feet? Flaunt them by wearing flip-flops and sandals. Focusing on the physical attributes you like about yourself will not only make you shine, but also make you forget the parts you feel self-conscious about.
* Know your options
Just because it's summer doesn't mean you have to wear sleeveless shirts if you don't like your upper arms. Or wear shorts if you think they make your thighs look big. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy summer fashion. Light fabrics and light colors keep you cool and are perfect for the season. Capri pants, pedal-pushers and skirts made from light fabrics are good alternatives. You've got plenty of options for the summer so no need to follow the latest trend if they don't flatter your body. If you're comfortable and feel good with what you're wearing, you're ready for the season.
Complete your look by choosing summer-themed accessories. Your capri pants and pastel-colored top may not make you feel especially in-season, but with the right beach bag, the perfect pair of flip-flops, funky earrings and the latest style of shades, you're all set.
* Choose the right swimsuit for your body type
I'm sure you've seen several guides to choosing the perfect swimsuit for your body type. The key to these guides is knowing the shape of your body so be honest with yourself. Pear-shaped? Long and skinny torso? Short torso? Top-heavy? Knowing your shape will help you learn from these guides about the styles that flatter your body and minimize your problem areas.
* Take advantage of cover-up clothing
Saris, sarongs or just about any piece of lightweight cloth that's wide enough can help provide cover-up when you're not yet ready to reveal your swimsuit-clad body. Lightweight drawstring pants and dresses or a slightly oversized button-up shirt can also work. These will take away the pressure of baring yourself in public until you've mustered the courage to take a dip.
* Choose a place where you can enjoy yourself
Pick a beach or pool where you'll feel comfortable and not self-conscious. Don't pressure yourself into having fun in surroundings that don't make you feel good about yourself. If staying at hip and crowded places makes you anxious, then skip them for a quiet family-oriented spot. Better yet, host a private party where you know everyone and don't have to fear being under the scrutiny of strangers.
Summer is all about fun and relaxation. Forget about what others think and focus on the things that make you happy instead. So put your feet up and enjoy the sun!
