If I Had Known
If I had known right from the start
How things were going to be,
I would not have loved you,
For it wasn't meant to be.
But each time I tried to pull away,
You would pull me back.
You'd tell me that you loved me,
And then the strength I'd lack.
I wrote to you a story,
Age old, of Romeo & Juliet.
The ending might be sweet you said,
I'd stop then and then not fret.
You sang to me with music,
And we talked often on the phone.
We commiserated and you helped
To ease the pain and drone.

Deep within your heart
To love deeply and be loved,
I felt it from the start.
You needed to be faithful,
You needed to be true.
All the things I needed,
I didn't find in you.

The touch of your hand
The way you'd run your fingers through my hair
I miss you
The smile on your face
