Going green is the new wave for most people. Those in the know have several sources for recycling household items. One of the sources I have found is http://www.freecycle.org/ , where you can sign up for free and list your items. The way this works is that you list an offer of goods and it must be free. Then any interested party that belongs to Freecycle will contact you by email unless you put a phone number in your advertisement.
The great thing about this is you can also place ads for wanted items. Things that you want and someone else wants to get rid of, you can request it. This is a great way to recycle things that you are no longer using and it goes to someone that really wants it.
Other options include donating your items to other nonprofit organizations for their thrift stores, which most of them have. This helps the organization with products to sell to get much needed funding.
Another option is to list your item on Craigslist http://tampa.craigslist.org/ (go to your own city) either for free, barter or sell. Most items under the free category go very fast no matter which website you are using.
Free cycling is a growing phenomenon. There are many websites to choose from, such as http://www.dontdumpthat.com/ , which is based in London. This is a worldwide movement and that is a great thing for our planet. The more people that free cycle the less stuff in landfills.
For materials that are at the end of their useful life there is http://www.recycle.net/ which lets you buy, sell or trade items. These items can be recycled into art or whatever you made need them for. Use the sources that you have available and it could save you a lot of money. You may be surprised at the things that you can get that no one wants anymore. Furniture, household materials, building materials, clothing, exercise equipment, computer equipment you name it I've seen it listed for free on many of these sites.
The only catch is that you have to pick it up. Not a bad deal when it's free and the sites are free to join. So jump in and see what you can recycle and list the things that you want. You never know you may just get what you want.
There are many more sites, but the most important thing is that we all get involved with going green in some way. Whether it's using long life energy saving light bulbs or recycling your paper, cans and household items, every little bit helps our planet.
So join in the movement and help save our planet one step at a time.
