Buyer's Guide to Toolboxes for Trucks
Most people I know who own pickup trucks also tend to be the same type to fix up their own home, do construction work, etc. Thesepeople use the truck above all for practical purposes, not a fashion statement. So for them a tool box is as important as the windshield is for your average driver.
Screwdrivers, hammers, screws, nails, nailguns, eletric power tools... all the necessities need to be kept someplace. How big is it and how accessible (and from where) you need the truck box to be are all questions that you will need to answer before making your purchase. People think this should be a no-brainer but you would be suprised athow many end up returning their tool box due to making a poor choice initially.
Choosing a toolbox for your truck is a little more complicated than it sounds. With all the options out there it can be overwhelming to shop for one without a good idea of the specifics needed to ensure a perfect fit with your needs. When buying a toolbox for your truck there are many factors to take into consideration.
These factors include the amount of things you need to store, the amount of truck bed space you need for other items, and whether you want it mounted or accessible from the side of the truck.
Then obviously there is the box itself. There are many variates to be found here. Some can come with as many as five drawers or more.
You have the slide system tool boxes which are fastened to a rail on the truck bed and allows you to slide your tools along the length of it in order to best reach what you are looking for.
If you want the tools accessible from inside the cab then you will need something designed to carry the tools in front of your bed. These are called "crossbed" truck boxes.
If you want your contents reachable from outside the truck then atop mount truck box is for you. This also mounts on the side rail but is openable from the side, putting its contents within easy reach when standing outside the truck.
Whether for your amateur fixer-upping or professional construction work, truck tool boxes come in great handy. The trick is identifying your needs and then getting the right model for you. The boxes listed above are popular but by no means the entire range of options. This was just a primer. There are new models coming out every day so keep your eyes open!
