There are literally hundreds of great home-based business opportunities out there just waiting for you to find them.

Unfortunately, there are literally thousands of scams out there, too. Some of them are legal and some are illegal. Some will leave you without a home-based business, and may even leave you without a home.

Knowing where to find great home-based business opportunities and knowing how to avoid scams is imperative if you are going to achieve your dreams. Finding the right opportunity, however, means sifting through the chaff to find the wheat.

You have to know how to recognize a good opportunity when you see it. For example, does the opportunity promise me something for nothing? You get out of something what you put into it. You're not going to become a millionaire working 15 minutes a day. Anyone who tells you that you are just wants you to buy their less-than-stellar product. In life, you are going to reap what you sow, and the more that you sow, the more you are going to reap.

Great home based business opportunities work for you. Your customers pay you, not the other way around. Yes, you might pay a resume service. Yes, you might purchase products to start your business. But if someone says you need to pay them in order to work for them from home, it is a scam. If that amount is sizeable, they are even required by law to follow certain rules and regulations for franchises.

Great home-based business opportunities are legal, too. It is easy to fall for illegal pyramid schemes, or for other sorts of home-based businesses that may seem all right on the surface but actually be against the law. Make sure the opportunity is legal, or you are guaranteed failure as well as jail time. If you are in doubt, either consider another home-based business opportunity or speak with an attorney about the matter, to determine whether or not the opportunity is legal.

Finally, you should be careful where you are looking for great home-based business opportunities. You'll find them in newspapers, legitimate magazines and on reliable websites. If a website or publication looks shifty, or if it is published by the person "selling" the opportunity, your warning bells should go off. It doesn't meant for certain that it isn't legitimate, but it does mean you should proceed with caution.

Finding great home-based business opportunities isn't easy. However, the payoff is huge. When you find one that works for you, it opens up a whole new world to you and your family.
