US elections 2008: Assessing the impact of younger voters on the upcoming elections

To be frank, the young voters are ruining the upcoming elections. Because the appeal that Barack Obama has upon them, as he is close to their own generation they automatically flock to his camp. Instead of researching the true issues that are plaguing our nation, many young voters see popularity and stardom. Today's voters have an election that has the potential to impact our history books. Armed with a feeling that you are embarking on a journey that you can relate to your offspring, you hit the polls with eagerness and importance. Politics are pretty boring for those who do not understand them, and for those who are not sure just what impact they bring into our everyday lives. Thus, struggling to keep your grades afloat or hold down an internship while in college, very little time is left to devote to your individual party, or even follow some of the issues that are in the forefront of the election. Today though, with both the first woman and African American candidates going head to head, we find that it is something that we can really relate to.

Not since John Fitzgerald Kennedy has their been a candidate in an election that has brought excitement to the presidential race. Barack Obama brings such appeal that young men and women see him as a role model because of his own young age. Senator Obama is one of the youngest persons to ever run for the president of the United States, let alone nearly seize the nomination of a particular party. He has struggled through numerous controversies (as with all candidates), yet has seemingly not lost his head over it. This can be seen as him being a bit aloof, which he is, but at his age one would not expect him to carry the same serious nature that his fellow candidates have.

Hillary Clinton is setting her own dramatic movement into the spotlight of the country. The first female that has ever com this close to a bid in the presidential election. It is beyond brave what she is doing, for the mere reason that she could have been beat long ago, yet she refuses to give up. She keeps trudging on, against all odds, while her opponent is simply riding a wave of success. As a woman, myself, and among the young voting age, I see Hillary as a complete role model. She is a strong independent woman, and a far better icon than some of the Hollywood starlets that the girls of today try to emulate. Not only would she be the first female president, she would be the first First Lady that would ever become Commander in Chief.
