brief personal story, biblical references, and questions for each topic. It certainly is "in-your-face," but it gets to the point about issues that teens are faced with daily and leads them in the path of righteousness.

MUSIC

What About It: Christian music has come a long way from the traditional, sluggish, pipe organ hymns that used to be sung. Current Christian music covers all genres from rock to rap to country. The sound is the same as secular music, but the lyrics teach Biblical messages and encourage listeners to seek the guidance of God. Since most teens listen to music for several hours every day, it is beneficial to turn them onto Christian tunes that boast positive words instead of the inappropriate adult themes found in today's standard music.

Try It: Musical tastes range from teen to teen, so any of the WOW compilations would surely have something for everyone. Since 1995, WOW, an annual compilation of the best in contemporary Christian music, has scored big with music lovers. These CD's feature such big names as DC Talk, Michael W. Smith, and Rich Mullins, along with newer artists like Third Day, Mercy Me, and Barlow Girl.

GIFT CARD

What About It: Instead of giving money or a generic present, go with a gift card. There is debate as to whether a gift card is actually a thoughtful gift. Many people see it as the easy way out but, since every person has a unique taste, sometimes it is best to let the recipient choose. For a teen who longs for the independence of making his or her own decisions, a gift card is even more desirable.

Try It: Be sure to purchase a gift card for a Christian store, so you can be certain the items bought will address faith in some way. Family Christian and Lifeway Christian are national chains that offer an assortment of Christian books, music, movies, clothing, crafts, trinkets, and other such treasures. Even online stores like ChristianBooks.com have gift certificates available.

THE MOST THOUGHTFUL GIFT

If none of these gifts seem right, do not forget the most thoughtful gift you could give to a Christian teen: yourself. In a hectic adult world, it is common to focus on a busy schedule rather than on a teen, whose body, mind, and soul is going through so many changes and requires Christian support. Give the gift of yourself. Sit down at a restaurant of the teen's choosing and talk. Moreover, listen. Find out what has been going on in the teen's life and offer advice. Remind him of God's promises. Knowing that you care is a wonderful offering.

Gift-giving should be easy and retain its usual excitement, whether it is Christian-related or not. With some creative thought, all presents can lead to abundant teenage thank-yous and the personal satisfaction that you are helping lead God's children.
