Poetry: The church

We cry out but no one hears,
All we get are a lot of stares.
Deacons and Elders look at us strange,
Thinking we are trying to run some sort of game.

We don't know why we even come,
To a church that makes us say ho-hum.
When we come we get the third degree,
As to why we are not dressed to a tee.

We say God looks on the heart and not on what we wear,
Do they believe that or do they really care?

They only see what their eyes can behold,
Can't they see we are trying to make it into the fold.

Heaven is a word that we can't fathom,
We can't see it, nor can we imagine,
What it would be like if Jesus should come,
To take us on that long distance run.

The Bible says, there will be no more sorrow or tears,
Well, we sure do have a lot of fears.
Trying to be accepted in a church that doesn't care,
Is one of the things that's got us scared.

No programs geared to help us out,
That's why we just roust about.
Even those we look up to don't even take the time,
To take us aside or take us home to dine.

We thought God said He would give us a little heaven on earth,
But do we have to have a new birth?
How can we find this heaven everyone talks about?
When we are always being put out.

Can't you all see and hear our plea,
We would like to have eternity.
Someone please help us to believe,
So that we can truly be set free.

Jesus is coming, we heard time and again,
But we don't see it in the church we attend.
All we see is selfish acts,
And people gathering in certain pacts.

Help us please to understand,
What the Lord commands.
How do we obey and follow the rules,
When Satan wants to make us out of fools.

Help us, help us to run this race,
So we won't lose out on eternal grace.
We want to have a closer walk with God,
So don't spoil the child or spare the rod.

Teach us how to have a walk,
With the man who died on the cross.
We want to make it in, we really do,
We don't want to wind up being Satan's dudes.

Help us, we ask again and again,
Don't shut us out, please let us in.
You won't regret it, just hear our plea,
So we can prepare for eternity.
