Movie reviews: Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi (1983)

Star Wars VI: Return Of The Jedi was, to me, one of the best movies I had ever seen. I was a teenager when I first discovered this movie and I fell in love. I had never seen a Star Wars movie before. I knew they existed, but it wasn't until Return Of The Jedi came out that decided to see what all the hype was about. My mother and I went to see this movie and we were both entranced throughout the whole movie.

At the time, Return Of The Jedi, was the third in the Star Wars trilogy that George Lucas created. I knew I was watching the last movie of the trilogy but I was intrigued by the movie and wanted to watch anyway. After watching the movie, I rented or bought the movies so I could watch the whole series. I even read any books that I could get my hands on. I read and reread The Return Of The Jedi book that had some pictures in it. I even bought an album that had the whole movie on it and listened to it many times. Once it came on video, I watched it so many times, that I could recite most if not all the dialog of the movie. I was that into the movie.

Return Of The Jedi was about Luke Skywalker becoming a Jedi and his plan to save his father, who he found out in the previous movie, Empire Strikes Back, was Darth Vader. It was also about the Rebel Alliance finally destroying The Galactic Empire and restoring order to the Galaxy.

We first see the two droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, heading down a dust covered road to a palace which we soon discover is the home of Jabba The Hutt, the most notorious gangster in the galaxy. They offer themselves to Jabba so they can gain entrance to the palace. Later, a bounty hunter arrives with Chewbacca and offers him to Jabba. The bounty hunter demands alot of money for him or else a thermal detonator will be used. An agreement is reached and Chewbacca is taken away. Later, we see the bounty hunter rescuing Han Solo, who is encased in carbonite. When Han Solo awakens, he wonders who saved him and we discover that it is Princess Leia. Before they can escape, they are captured by Jabba and his guards. Han is taken away and Leia is made his slave girl.

Next we see Luke making his way into the palace to save them all. He uses the force to make Jabba's minion's do what he wants them to so he can get to Jabba. He offers Jabba a deal and tries to use the force against him, but does not succeed. Jabba has him where he wants him and has the floor open where Luke falls in and has to battle the rancor, a terrifying beast, to live.
