I know that there is debate on whether or not we should speak directly to our enemies in an effort to try to get the Iraq war better situated. The school of thought is split on this issue as it has been historically. Iran and Syria in particular have been mentioned as those we should engage in talks. Let me say up front where I stand here. I think it is ridiculous to ask the people who want to see us fail the most to help. They are the ones causing much of the terrorism in the world today and for the life of me I can't see Jim Baker's reasoning on this one. Either way, the official policy of the President at this time is to not talk with them. He is more likely planning to attack those nations before he sits down with them. So what are two Democratic Senators doing in Syria under what is being labeled a fact finding mission? What facts are they trying to find? How loud they cheer at the news of any American death? The Secretary Of State Codi Rice has condemned this trip as has the White House. Their language was harsh but I feel they held back some. I won't. I feel it is treasonous!
We are in the middle of a war and are smack right in the middle of both these countries that are supplying our enemies. Many from these two nations are actually fighting us themselves with safe passage in and out . It smacks of the VC running back across the border to Cambodia where they were safe. Until Nixon bombed them into oblivion. If a man robs your house in the dead of night and makes it out to the street, are you unable to grab him there? After all, he is not in the house anymore. Exactly. This is what we have there in Iraq to a certain extent and these two Senators are in there talking? About what? They are undermining our troops. They are defying the Presidents policy and they are playing politics in a shameful effort to force the Presidents path. Shame.
This is far worse than the Reverend Jackson going to unfriendly countries to free hostages. This reeks more of Hanoi Jane posing on an AA gun with the VC. Why don't these two patriots ( I can not even justify saying their names )don turbans and pose with mortars and al kida. We are at war you idiots. Present a unified front to the enemy and their supporters. It's bad enough the media gives them aid and comfort. Now our own senate does too. Support the President no matter what your political affiliation is. Hopefully they will never live down their mistake and be defeated in their home states. There really should be some sort of impeachment though in the least if not official charges brought up for treason.
