A sharp crack to start the day.
A hangover headache pierces my consciousness,
Dragging me from sleep.
Coffee and a hot shower to get myself right.
Spend the day puttering around the house.
Vacuum cleaner roars, dust rag hisses.
Lunch, then shave.
Pack lunch and go to work.
Long bus commute.
Go to work, stand behind the counter.
Customers are so stupid, inconsiderate, sloppy, messy.
Spend night putting away movies, tidying up, cashing out.
Now, time to go home.
Long bus ride home, longer when connections are missed.
Get home, have another beer.
Watch Torchwood, Doctor Who.
Go to bed.
Sleep.
Get up, start all over again.

Take a walk in my shoes.
Experience one day in my life.
See the anguish, the exhaustion,
The terror, the strife.
I wake up in
The Duty of a Soldier's Wife
I salute our flag
With my oven Mit
Changing diapers to the sound
Of freedom's wit
Serving my country
Proud

Here inside this body
Lives a ME that no one knows
A ME that's hard to understand
A ME I haven't chose
To be bitter and misgiving
Is
The world on my shoulders, a smile on my face
The girl in the mirror is hard to embrace
I'm a mother of three, yet I tend

A day in my life
A sky of often-grey
A never-lifting cloud
An endless fall of rain
A bout of shining sun
Playing peek-a-boo
Between
