How to Achieve Perfect Emo Girl Hair

First it must be known that there is nothing perfect about Emo Hair, the messier the better. In order to understand Emo hair, one must understand where this so called new style comes from, straight out of the punk rock era that the US experienced in the 1980s. Back then it was all about jagged cuts and radical colors. For today's youth, the standards are pretty much the same.

Now to achieve this look, one must be willing to ignore the normal beauty standards and accept the odd looks that will most definitely follow. The first step is to decide on the cut, do you want to keep it long or go for the shorter more outrageous cut. Either way, there will be nothing uniform about your cut. You must explain to your stylist that uneven cuts and jagged lines are what you want to achieve.

The most basic description, for a long or short cut, would be to have the stylist envision an inverted bob cut(long in front and short in the back), but then take it to the next extreme. Your possibilities range from slightly uneven sides with the back moderately shorter to uneven sides created by drastic jagged cuts and razored edges with the back shaved, as a marine would say, high and tight. No matter what, the cut is your first step to achieve the look you want.

Next, one must decide on color. Today the rainbow in sky is truly no longer the limit, with a wide variety of colors available your stylist can help you obtain any color your heart, make that your hair, desires.

Royal blue, lime green, bubble gum pink, platinum blond, ruby red and midnight black are just a few of the colors from which you can chose. However, keep in mind that you do not have to choose just one, or heck even two, you can make your hair your palate.

After you have decide on your cut and color and this has all been explained to and understood by your stylist, take the next step and just commit and do it. But keep in mind you will need products, as they say in the hair business, to maintain your look in between hair appointments.

One such product is hair wax and sorry to say, you do have to pay for a good one. The better the wax the lighter it will be in your hair, allowing your style to last throughout the day. Some of the cheaper waxes tend to be very heavy and will drag or pull down your style, making your hair limp and leaving it very weighted. Another note on hair wax, have your stylist show you the correct way to apply it to your hair. Believe it or not, there is an art to applying the wax and you definitely will want to know some inside tricks. Otherwise you will end up looking like that little boy you once knew whose mother always licked her hand and stuck his hair to his head, definitely not an Emo look.

The other product you will need is a good color safe shampoo and conditioner. There is nothing worse then waking up with pink hair and taking a shower only to discover your hair is now a strange combination of pink, orange and platinum, unless of course that was the look you were trying to achieve. But honestly, this is a product you will need unless you truly enjoy going to see your stylist on a bi-weekly basis.

Now that you have all this information, you also have the knowledge to achieve that great Emo look you have always wanted. Just remember, with this style, anything goes.
