Besides feeling like a sucker, because I like certain commercials, it saddened me to see that a doctor named Rapaille (Ra-Pie) from New York, that at one time treated autism patients, was now using his abilities to aid marketing firms in their efforts for a successful commercial campaign. Dr. Rappaille has a right as an American to pursue his career in whatever way he wants, even if it seems a little shady since he took the oath when he became a Doctor to "do no harm."

From a very early age, little girls are being taught that their appearance is vital to their success in life. I realized this when shopping at my local Target Department Store on a mission to find a birthday present for a 10 year old little girl. Much to my surprise, the entire left hand side of the Barbie aisle was full of Bratz brand dolls. These dolls have a frightening resemblance to street hookers. They come in full size dolls, all the way down to teeny-tiny pocket travel size. I was shocked. The Barbie doll I played with back in the 70's is a far cry from what is being sold today. The Bratz dolls are the worst looking doll I have ever seen. They have gobs of makeup on, revealing tops, short skirts and high heel shoes. I decided that the doll idea for a present was a bad idea, so I proceeded to the little girl clothing department. It was disturbing as well. I decided to play it safe and just buy a gift card. I will leave it up to her mother to help her decide what an appropriate gift for her is. I wish more parents would decide not to buy into what is being marketed to their children as being in style and start parenting their children, instead of trying so much to be their childs' friend for fear their children won't like them if they try to tell them what to do.

When standing in line at the grocery store, at any given time, take a look at the magazine covers. 99% of them will show a young, skinny model, with perfect skin and boobs, smiling. The magazine will make claims that by reading their articles, the reader will benefit from their advice. The titles alone speak for themselves. Here are some examples: Glamour, Vogue, Lucky, In Style, Self, Teen People and Sixteen Magazine. Organizations, such as The Girl Scouts are still around as a positive influence for little girls, unfortunately they do not produce a mainstream magazine for girls as an alternative to what is currently available.

We should really fear ourselves and what we are teaching our children about what it is to
