Politics is the study of how people interact. Most of the time, this is people trying to get other people to do something. Sometimes this is persuasion other times it is by force. A iron fist king will force his people to to something like paying taxes. A Democratic politician would try to persuade someone to vote for her or him. Either way they both have the ability and exercise the ability to change the way people act. Terrorism is a political philosophy that intends to scare people into doing things. They might blow up a building or a train etc. In the contemporary sense terrorism seems to focus on a war between the super powers and the people who are affected by them, whether Oklahoma city or 9/11.
The war on terror was established by the super powers fighting back, for lack of a better phrase, against the terrorist. The thing that is most important to remember about terrorist only represent themselves even though they try to promote inclusion into another group. Like Bin Laden promoting Islam. Terrorist are extremist who try to make their position seem logical by appealing to conventional understanding about the world. This can be done trough political factions (Ha-mass), religion (Islam), history, or any other common acceptance. In the end the war on terror is really about fighting illogical extremist. The philosophy about the terrorist is to force people into accepting their ideology.
Why? Power is the source of motivation for any polemical motivation. Power can, though, be seen very differently by different people. The Pope often sees his power as a way to promote peace. Lydon Johnson saw his power as trying to fight poverty in the United States. Terrorist, like all other failures of the human conscious, seek only to obtain rather than to use. Terrorist seek power for the sake of power. Like a person who makes money for only making money is never satisfied, a terrorist is never content with only controlling their own life. They have to control all life.
Politics is the study of how people interact. Who should control who and to what extent is nothing new, neither is terrorism. The philosophy of the terrorist is simple, gain as much power as possible. The horrifying aspect of terrorism is their ability to convince unsuspecting people to go to the greatest lengths so that they can seek power for the sake of power. Politics is a power motivated dominace game won and lost through the lives of many.
