Who are the top NBA scoring leaders of 2007-2008 and why were they so successful?

LeBron James - 30.0 points per game - First scoring title

LeBron is the best scorer in the NBA today - only Kobe in today's game can even come close to his offensive prowess. LeBron is a talent where, even if double- or triple-teamed, he is going to take the shot. If LeBron can see the rim he is going to take the shot - unless one of his teammates is open. LeBron is an exceptional passer and as soon as he gets a great player beside him his wins will go up (though his points will fall). LeBron took 1642 shots last year, almost TWICE as many shots taken as any other player on the Cavaliers and second most in the entire league. James has been second in attempts each year he has been in the NBA other than his rookie year (when he was fourth). If recent addition Big Ben Wallace regains his defensive ability he had in Detroit, James should be able to get even more good looks.

Kobe Bryant - 28.3 points per game - Two scoring titles (2006, 2007)

Kobe is simply a scoring machine. He is the closest player to Jordan that we have in the game right now. By that I mean he scores a lot of points off his defense and the bulk from the same scoring system. This is not to attempt to view him as Jordan version 2.0, but there are major similarities. What sets Kobe apart is simply the same characteristic which set Jordan, Iverson, LeBron apart - he is almost unstoppable on the offensive end. But, unlike some, Kobe does rely on his defense to gain him points. Another aspect Kobe is working on is his three-point shooting - his three-point shooting percentage has gone up four of the past five years.

Allen Iverson - 26.4 points per game - Four scoring titles (1999, 2001, 2002, 2005)

A former MVP in Philadelphia, Iverson's secret to success is different from anyone else on this list. Iverson simply wants to score more and is willing to kill you, me, the front row, and himself to get to that rim. Iverson has a underrated outside shot and the ball-handling skills to go through any crack in the paint that an opposing defense gives him. I am not saying his desire to score is greater than Jordan or Wilt or even Shaq or Dr. J; what I am saying is that A.I. is more willing to put himself on the floor to get a point than any superstar I have seen in over 25 years of watching basketball.
