Poetry: Pretending

That good at pretending

You're just like all the others,
pretending to love me,
waiting for the right time to let me fall.
I already know this game,
I've played it before.
Well I have news for you,
I pretend it's all OK,
when really,
I wish I could just cry.
I'm good at pretending too.
You pretend to love me,
to care for me,
to be there for me.
I pretend that I'm not hurt,
I pretend not to cry,
I pretend that I'm wanted.
I'm just that good at pretending.
I pretend to be blind to what you do,
to what you say,
when all I really want to do is smack you.
I pretend that you love me,
but I know better.
I pretend that you'll be there for me,
and I know you won't.
I'm just that good at pretending.
I pretend to be happy,
but inside the tears are slipping.
I pretend you're mine,
even though you're not.
I pretend I'm OK,
when really all I want,
is to just cry.
I'm just that good at pretending.
