In a workplace or in daily life to have effective relationship communication is vital because it encourages to share opinions and openly discuss issues and achieve common goals and avoid misunderstanding and loss of self-esteem. Every body communicates but they don't communicate effectively. In practice, effective communication is not easy. However,if one can learn how to effectively communicate in the workplace or in their daily life it may lead to trusting and constructive relationship. As well, it builds long lasting relationship which may contribute to make less mistakes and there fore save time and money in making the same mistakes in the future.
That is effective communication is one of the factor and may be a crucial factor to improve operational efficiency and productivity in the workplace particularly in a competitive external economic environment.
The corner stone of effective communication is active listening than passive listening in the first place. In general in workplace situations the employees listen passively. It may be due to the workplace environment, which do not encourage open communication on issues which, are currently crucial and the message is not specific and the manager always takes past events and mistakes when communicating with with employees. It is also due to the fact that normally people do not communicate actively but passively. For example if a manager do not suggest how to correct when an employee make a mistake and shouts at him the employee tends to make the same mistake in the future and stops the employee to ask for any guidance from the manager in the future and he will continue to passively listen than actively listening and getting clarification if he wants to further understand his message so that he do not make mistakes in the first place. This example demonstrates the importance how employers by their own communication and their behavior can negatively increase the tendency to further passively listen to his message than actively listening or encourage the employee to actively listen and avoid mistakes in the future.
In essence the factors which contribute to effective communication are open communication which encourages the employees to communicate on issues relevant to the workplace and to encourage opposing views and not to enforce the employees to follow the line of the companies directives all the time and encourage employess to actively listen than passively listen by allowing them and training them to actively listen to clarify any communication and ask questions to further understand the purpose and the content of communication. In addition, the managers at all levels give guidance and advise how to correct mistakes and not bring past events which afffects the employee self-esteem and emotion. It is also important to understand that effective communication is not easy in a workplace. However, the management must understand how effective communication can be encouraged and its relationship to operational efficiency and productivity in a workplace environment particularly in a dynamic economic, social and technological and competive global environment of the current global economy.
