I'm a practical gift giver; always have been. When searching for a thoughtful gift for a Christian teen, I try to purchase or create a gift that has an everyday use attached to it. That being said, here are a few ideas for thoughtful yet practical gifts for teens.

A personalized bible

Every Christian teens needs to have a bible for study and meditation. A great choice is a leather- bound bible in the translation they are most comfortable both reading and reciting from. Have it inscribed with their name, the date it was given to them, the special occasion (If any) it was given for and who it is from, to make it more special.

Music

There are numerous Christian bands that offer an array of music, including Rock, Contemporary, Country and Western and Alternative. As teenagers have a tendency to absorb themselves in music, this would make a wonderful gift.

Clothing apparel

More and more mainstream department and specialty stores are carrying lines of clothing which depict biblical verses, and Christian values. They come in an array of colors, designs, sizes and include a variety of outerwear. Be sure to save the receipt just in case what you choose isn't a good fit or color. (Teens can be real fickle about what they wear)

A teen devotional

Christian teens are put under a lot of stress, in respect to the different life style they live from their peers. A pocket-size devotional would make a good gift. They can read the bible verses, and short story associated with them, to draw some strength as they try to get through any rough moments they may face throughout their day.

Create a scrapbook

For the crafty gift-giver, create a scrapbook of all the Christian teen's spiritual accomplishments. Some ideas would be their baptism or christening, a play they may have been in, or any other thing that denotes their walk with God.

Not so crafty? Build a photo album of these same accomplishments, and personalize it by inscribing a message on the inside cover.

Another crafty gift is a bible cover. Either a hand-crafted one or a purchased one will make their bible more personal.

Reading material

Chicken Soup for The Soul is a series of books that targets a wide variety of groups; including the teenager. Filled with real life stories about and by Christian and Non-Christian teen struggles, triumphs and views, the teenager in your life will draw much comfort and strength from its pages. There is a wide variety of books to choose from in addition to this one.

You may consider purchasing a subscription to a Christian magazine as well.

A personal Journal

Having a personal journal is a great outlet for a Christian teen. They can record their private thoughts, keep a list of goals or create a daily list of all they are thankful for. They can be purchased with blank pages or with scripture verses or inspirational sayings on each page.

Whether the Christian teen in your life wants to stay focused on their walk, sing praise to the Heavenly Father, or make a visual stand for Christ Jesus, these gifts are not only thoughtful, but they will help them to do just that.
