Summer beauty: Overcoming body image issues

I love being in the sun. Especially the beach. But I can remember the day when I went, but wouldn't wear a suit. I put on several pounds after having my three kids,
and didn't feel comfortable going out in public in a suit, or any summer atire. I also didn't want to embarrass my kids!

T-shirts and shorts...I waded into the water to play with my little one. I was so self conscious. Never mind my kids wanted me to come in and play with them. I was too stubborn to do it. I dripped sweat and burned, and felt left out. I got so I did not want to go anymore.

One day, watching my kids playing in the water, I knew what I was missing. I was hurting the
kids and myself. Why was I depriving them and myself of the pleasure of playing in the water? And of making memories with them.

So, I tackled the problem. There are lot's of things one can do to improve their
appearance, despite weight or body type. Working out, either on machinery, or walking, will help to firm up your body. Here's a few other ideas, ones that worked for me:

1. Suit style: Try on your suit. Pick one that will conceal any unsightly areas of your body, but helps give you some shape. Many new fabrics help in that area. I always get one with a small skirt, and a sculpted bodice. It slenderizes the waist, and the skirt takes attention away from heavier hips and thighs. However, be careful not to get a big skirt. When it gets wet it will hang down too long. Also, don't go wild with color. While we large ladies are tired of wearing black, choose something that has some solid color in it, especially in the lower part. NO two pieces, and forget bikinis!

2. Skin care: You can make a difference in appearance by taking good care of your
skin. You should do that always, not just summer. Moisturize it regularly;use a soap that has a moisturizer.
If you have unsightly moles or skin tags , go to the dermatologist! Make sure you use a quality skin protection product, that is high in UV blockage. Make sure it is waterproof, but still reapply regularly. Make sure to use moisturizer and pumice stones on heels, and rough spots on feet. Heavy ladies can have pretty feet too!

3. Get a good haircut! Wear your hair in a style that will make it nice and neat looking
even when it gets wet. A good haircut makes it easier to restyle your hair, but will also compliment your face and your body shape. Good hairdressers know exactly what is needed. Make sure your hair is clean and well groomed.

4. Waterproof makeup: Don't wear lots...you're at the beach, for goodness sake! Some mascara and eyeliner, and a bit of lip gloss with color will be the right touch for your
face.

5. Accessories: Sunglasses, scarves, hats, flip-flops, and beach robes will enhance your figure's good points. Take the time to search out, try on, and purchase these items. They don't need to be fancy, or costly, just coordinated well!

6. Nails: Take care of your nails. Cut, file, and paint them in pretty summery colors, like pink pastels or pearl. Toenails need to be kept a nice length, not too long but not too short, and painted prettily. Good nail shape and color will polish your look, and you will feel pretty.

Now, head out and have a great time. Don't miss out on fun in the sun. I will never again miss a trip to go to the beach, or pool, since I realize how important it is, how short life is, and how ladies need to relax and have fun! My kids were happy when I traded the T-shirt and shorts for a suit!

Go for it, Ladies! I'll see you at the beach!
