I was a child
No more than four
Perched on my mother's knee
Brown eyed and wild
Hands wanting more
She gave the seed to me
It was just mine
To plant and sow
To nurture and to love
"Just give it time
And it will grow."
She promised from above
Too young to care
That freedom's wings
Must come with letting go
I would not share
My precious seed
I could not let it grow
Of all the things
My mother placed
Into my little hands
That tiny seed
With love encased
Taught me to understand
When it's my need
To close the door
Refusing to let go
A precious seed
Means so much more
When it's allowed to grow

A seed for food must be tended with care
A seed for
