Vandalism Attacks Against the Obama Campaign
On May 4, 2008, the Vincennes Indiana Obama for America office was broken into and vandalized. One of the storefront windows were smashed and the American Flag was stolen. The remaining windows were covered with spray paint with racial slurs. The Vincennes Police Department is working on the investigation with the Secret Service to apprehend the vandals. Currently, there are no reports of suspects. Is this the 1950's or 1960's?
Vincennes is located in southwest Indiana which resides in Knox County. Vincennes was the first city founded in Indiana and was originally a French fur trading outpost. Currently, it is the second poorest county in Indiana, but is a low crime community. Most residents are poor and white.
This is the first act of this kind against the Obama campaign. Many in the community is shocked by the racial crime. Most campaigners are disgusted by the vandalism. "This was a heinous act and I would even go so far as to classify it as a hate crime," says Charles Sebring of the Vincennes Obama campaign.
Hillary Clinton's Campaign Headquarters is less than 100 feet from Obama's Campaign Headquarters. There has been no reports of vandalism to that office. It seems that this community would rather see a woman as the Democratic representative rather than an Black one. The Democratic Civil War is destroying the party. Race is the divisive instrument that could ensure the country, four more years of Republican leadership.
Historically, both parties have shown racist tendencies. Many leaders from both parties believed that their race is superior to all. Isn't it amazing that it has taken this ling to have a Black man and a white woman run to become the most powerful person in the world.
The racial divide is bringing up old feelings. People are experiencing the hurt and pain that this country embraced for hundreds of years. The fifty acres are on fire and the mule has been castrated. Reparations is an ideology of fiction. The truth shall set us free, but it may kill us at the same time.
These despicable acts are a reflection of the community. This form of dirty politics weakens us as a society. Democracy is ignored and we as a community lose our voices. The silence is deafening. The strongest nation on earth has chinks in our armor. The wounds are self inflicted.
Hate comes from ignorance. Ignorance is our enemy. We must battle the ignorance with education. We must boast the message with pride and joy. We must silence our enemies with strength and vigor. I pray that good will prevail against evil.
