Poetry: Simple refuge

I always know the meaning
when his hand brushes my hip...
I've been crying in my sleep.
By waking me, he brings comfort,
offering refuge,
not from forgotten memories,
but from ignored pain.

I, his lover, his soulmate,
the woman he has chosen,
become childlike in the darkness.
He protects me by shedding light,
becoming a beacon
chasing away demons of old
with gentle understanding.

In silence, we lie with wonder -
he from why I can't let him in,
I from why I can't let go -
until we drift off
in search of peace in our dreams....
or until his hand brushes my hip
to save me from myself.
