Each year college tuition continues to go up and it gets harder and harder for someone to go to college. Not just tuition is sky high, but also room, board, and books. But there are ways to help pay the way to a higher education, a rewarding experience, and the potential for a wonderful, dream job. Everything from student loans to scholarships help pay the way for a better learning experience.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are based on a wide variety of things. There are scholarships for left handed writers, a scholarship on using duct tape to make a prom dress, but there are also scholarships for academics and geared toward certain majors in college. When looking on the web for scholarships one needs to be aware of potential scams that are out there. Remember you do not need to pay for or pay back a scholarship. The best place to look for scholarships is Fastweb.com. They also have a college search, and remind you when there are deadlines or new scholarships available. They also do a search for potential internships in your area.
STATE BENEFITS
Each state has different benefits for students. Pennsylvania has PHEAA which supplies grants and work study for students. States can provide grants, scholarships and more for college students. Some offer internships for those interested in various aspects of government or other state run agencies. Work study programs allow you to work at the college of your choice while you study there. You get a small income, and some more money is used to help pay of your tuition expenses.
UPROMISE
This program isn't just for raising money for college, it also allows you to raise money to pay of student loans quicker. You can have anyone in your family and friends sign up to benefit you. Whenever you purchase something online through stores affiliated with Upromise, a percentage of what is spent is put into your upromise account to raise money. An idea of how to use upromise effectively is to check out what books you need before each semester and then order them online at the Barnes and Noble website. They give a percent of the money spent, even through their used section to help with college expenses. Since you need to buy books anyway, why not get some money back from it?
STUDENT LOANS
Student loans are another way to help pay for college. Some students have used this as a last resort when they have gotten as much as they could with everything else. Student loans allow you to borrow money to pay the expenses of college. Many of them allow you
