Abuse drugs are one of the main curses afflicting the society of all the Western Countries and the US are the main consumers (cocaine, heroin, amphetamines and so on), an ideal market for their producers, particularly active and rooted in South America for cocaine (mainly in Bolivia, Peru and Colombia) and, for heroin, in Afghanistan that produces maybe up to the 80% of all the poppy of the world, the raw matter for heroin production by the organized crime.
This means that such a great consumers demand from the US makes more difficult to fight illegal drugs producers who increase their number and profits, like mice in a great warehouse full of cheese.
In this situation, the first thing that the US mustn't do is war with soldiers, tanks, aircrafts and the so-called "intelligent bombs" in the Countries producing illegal drugs because this production doesn't come from few criminals hiding themselves in remote zones or in private houses, but from the largest part of the local poor farmers because cultivating coca or poppy is their only chance to live and have good gains and it's tolerated and covered by local authorities, more or less corrupted by the "narcos" (the bosses of the gangs of abuse drugs dealers).

This unhappy Country, in fact, is devastated by 30 years of invasions, wars, misery and religious fanaticism and is divided in various semi-feudal provinces. The central government in Kabul, lead by Amid Karzaj, is too weak to control the whole Afghanistan, despite the military presence of the UN troops (mainly, Americans) who try in vain to fight the Taliban guerrilla in the South and along the border with Pakistan.
Poppy is produced not only because considered the only convenient possibility to cultivate something and gain a decent income; this cultivation, in fact, is also easy and requires limited
