Cigarettes, Soap and Coffee

Mornings
Nine to five
Ten to six
Seven to four
80 hour weeks
Maybe more

Left right left
Down we go
Slow hike to
Debtor's road
Get in line
Freedom's bums
Marching to the beat
Of the economist drum

Packed on elevators
Front to back
Suits and skirts touching
Scent of Dial, Caress, Coast
Perfume cologne pomades
Air lingering of cigarettes
Soap and coffee mingling
We transformed remade

To exit on and off
And merge into life
Unmoving at a standstill
Lining up like ants on the hill
Building a nest for the queen
She has an insatiable appetite
Zombies for finances
Add up and marooned
Subtract add divide proliferate
Too bad Mr. Jones it still equals nil

Let's take a break
Get your coffee
I got twenty in a pack
Smoked twelve
That leaves eight
Got enough Java
Looks like lava
Got enough cigarettes
To add to the smoke
Hurry up man put out your
Fire the queen waits
Got to make our notes

Cigarettes Soap and Coffee
