One of the best Christian camps in the United States is located in Adair, Oklahoma. A little place named Dry Gulch U.S.A. It is an awesome camp for kids as well as teenagers. Kids and teens a like come from all over the United States to go to Camp Dry Gulch.
The camp is owned by Church on The Move from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pastor Willie George had a vision many years ago that led him to the property where the camp now stands. God prophesied to him to build this camp to help children from all over the country have a fun, safe place to come and enjoy themselves and revel in the God's word. The camp not only appeals to the fun side of life, but also the spiritual side, as well.
Dry Gulch has go-kart tracks, a carousel, brand new play ground equipment, horses, boats, water slides, bumper cars, blow up games, game room with pool tables and video games, outside and inside basketball courts. You name it, they have it. The camp is housed in buildings that resemble a town from the 1800's. This adds so much to the camp's charm. It's so rustic looking, that when you step off the bus and into the camp grounds, you actually feel like you're stepping back in time. That is until you go into one of the buildings. Inside, the buildings are all modern. They have a brand new handicap building to accommodate any handicap campers that come. The camp hosts "Burn Camp" every year for children that have been victims of fire. They get to go and enjoy the camp just like all the other kids do. They are treated just like the other kids. They are all loved. Children with special needs are so very welcome, as well.
The camp is run by Roy Evans, or as the kids affectionately call him "General." He's just a big old country boy that love kids. Roy is an ordained minister and he speaks daily at the chapel services. They also have guest speakers that come out and speak to the kids during chapel. The kids enjoy going to chapel as much as playing on all the games and rides. Every year, many kids dedicate their lives to Christ at Camp Dry Gulch. That is so special, especially in this day and time when there isn't enough emphasis on religion and God in the world. They sure learn about Him at Dry Gulch.
I haven't seen a kid yet, come back that didn't have a great experience at Dry Gulch. When you pick up your child afterwords, they are always going on about what a great time they had, how awesome their camp counselors were, how beautiful it was on the lake (It sits on Lake Hudson), and how much fun they had in chapel with General. Usually the next thing out of their mouths is "When can I go back?"
If you're looking for a good Christian summer camp, make sure it not only caters to the fun side, but also the spiritual side. Camp Dry Gulch does all that and more. You and your children will love it! They take kids up until their 17 years old. I'd like to go, but they just don't have camp for 40 somethings. But you can work there and so can teenagers. It's awesome! Check it out at www.drygulchusa.com
