Terrorism

How did the United States become a target for terrorism?

Are you listening Mr. Bush?

Sometime ago, I was at Chicago airport waiting to be picked up by a close friend of mine. As I was sitting there waiting, I saw a young guy, around his 20s, walking towards me. His eyes were wet, but he was looking good in his military uniform. As he was approaching, I questioned his intentions. Soon, I realized that he was looking at his parents, who were standing right behind me. He fell in their arms, he cried like a babe and he whispered "I love you". It felt like he was waiting for this moment, to share with his wet eyes and eloquent silence, everything that he had gone through over the previous months. All three of them prayed to God. He had just got home from Iraq.

Does this sound correct to you? Well, to me it doesn't.

The moment that a U.S. soldier returns home from an irrational war seems like saving one more life from Mr. Bush's imperialistic agenda. These moments are the result of a huge U.S. letdown, which advocates global freedom, equality and stability, but it fails to do so, because it often exceeds global tolerance with interference in other nation's internal affairs.

Innocent Americans were killed on 9/11 because of Muslims. Correct.

Innocent Americans are being sent to several wars to be killed in the name of deliberation, freedom, democracy and political stability of other nations. Does this sound correct?

U.S. embassies are being bombarded around the globe and innocent Americans are being injured or killed. Correct.

Innocent Americans are being sent to unknown, foreign places, thousand miles away from home, with the promise to be heroes when they triumphantly return, but they end up crippled, and neglected by the U.S. State. Does this sound correct?

We cannot be correct and successful outside when we fail inside. We cannot be a super-power country, when people in the U.S. endure hypocrisy, Puritanism, manipulation of the truth and economic instability. We cannot be popular outside, when our President ignores the voices against war and anti-war demonstrations all over the U.S. and keeps on creating conflicts in the name of stability and global equality.

At the same time, we cannot throw nuclear bombs and destroy long-standing nations because we think they develop weapons of mass destruction, which are never really discovered in the aftermath. We cannot stick our nose in other nation's internal affairs and offer advantages to nations we believe they serve our capitalistic purposes. We cannot destroy countries because we want to set our foot in their broader territory and at the same time complain for the increasing rate of immigration from countries we have destroyed.

It is sad and discouraging. American Dream has deteriorated because of an irrationally excessive U.S. imperialism. America has become a target for terrorism because, despite having developed the best business models around the globe, still, we fail in managing our own affairs.
