The Right Thing
in a moment of chaos
I let slip the three letters
that took you from me
"DNR. She signed a DNR."
I was confused and upset
so many strangers around us
somebody asked
and the words I vowed never to speak
came out in a final act of love
"DNR"
Everything suddenly stopped
and you were left to choke and convulse
unattended.
"Help her!" I begged.
Someone put their arms around me.
And then you were gone.
Since then I've imagined
363 different scenario's
of how we could have spent this year
together
had I not "Done the right thing."
And given the ultimate gift of love
from a daughter to a mother.
