The key role thoughts play in our lives

One's state of mind governs perception of situations, people, and things. It drives our moods as well as motivation. It's been proven that a positive state of mind is important for the sake of promoting healing and even cures that were thought to be impossible or miraculous.

It isn't necessary to go into some mantric state to optimize being in a positive state of mind. It only takes appreciating snatches and glimpses of the things surrounding us in order to (yes, it is cliche, but true) be in the moment with the experience. Being in the moment means more than just seeing or hearing everything (or a lot of it). It means fully appreciating the full dynamics of what's creating the moment as well as what makes this a time to be appreciated. It's being able to "see" how you relate to the things impacting you at that point in time. And whether those things are causing pain or pleasure, you realize you are gaining more experience and knowledge from it.

Lessons learned from experiences can change our perspective and allow us to see things in a more positive light. One woman who finally realized during a two-year period that she was not only a captive but also enduring domestic abuse soon found a way to make the most of her minimal existence by appreciating the simple. She turned small things into her own personal decadent experience, although to look at it would not have seemed as so. But the abundance that began to grow about her in flowers, landscape, and small bits of community betrayed her peril. There are some who examine The Diary of Anne Frank and find that Anne also went through a major expansion in character and personality as well as maturation during those days of living in strict confinement in the attic.

All of that being said, let us examine a period of time in the life of Amy. The read-out on the clock-radio said it was 3:35 AM. There was nothing the matter. Amy simply stopped sleeping and opened her eyes. There was a sensation that was beckoning; it was time to acknowledge it.

The first thing she noted was the feel on the soles of her feet. It was as though they were treading along the beach on lightly damped, packed sand. They had that soft, velvety feel of the sand as you walk and leave little to no print behind and pick up almost no grains of sand because it's at that point when dampness and dryness are at just the right balance. She moved her feet a bit and realized the feel was her soles rubbing against the bottom sheet. It felt wonderful and returned
