Terrorism

How did the United States become a target for terrorism?

I think the question is reversed, all things considered, how could we possibly have avoided being a target of terrorist? Lets look at the record shall we?

We are the richest and most powerful country in the world, in the very Darwinian environment of the Cold War we evolved, adapted, prospered and won. We are the biggest target in the 1st World so why shouldn't the 3rd World want to see us humiliated and afraid. After all, that is exactly how they think we want to see them.

Our culture evolved out of Western Europe, our philosophies, religions and loyalties seem to be wrapped up in Western European culture. The Arab world sees Western Europe as their sworn enemy and the enemy of the Muslim world in general. Ergo, they see us as nothing but another bastion of their enemy sitting safely behind Fortress America supporting everything they are sworn to defeat. Again, how could we possibly not be a target.

We were the major sponsor of the State of Israel, after the State was formed we were the ones who stood over them like a big brother in a school yard full of bullies. When Israel began to defeat Arab fielded armies every piece of equipment they used was Made In The USA. Their is a Muslim saying, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Does it not stand to reason that the "friend" of you enemy would be your enemy?

Those three things are unavoidable, only one of them is based in any policy decision we made and I believe it was the right decision. Based on those three things alone we are resented over most of the Middle East and that makes us a target of retaliation in the more extreme parts of that world.

But there are some things we do and did that were avoidable and can be changed.

Our corporate entities, oil companies, entered the Arab world and made remarkably favorable deals for themselves. The theory was that a bunch of Goat Herders would take what they were offered and be happy. But Goat Herders are no more stupid than Texas Oil men. Yes they took the best offer they could get from Gulf, Texaco and BP knowing that, at present, it was a buyers market. Now its a Seller's Market and the oil companies now have the humiliating task of going, hat in hand, to the grandchildren of those Goat Herders and begging for oil.

But that is not enough pay back for the Arab world, they were extremely offended by our high handedness and seeing us injured, humiliated and afraid while one of the symbols of our strength fell carrying over a thousand of our
