US Elections 2008: Barack Obama versus Hillary Clinton, indeed. Notice that the title is not "John McCain vs. Hillary Clinton" or "John McCain vs. Barack Obama". Rather, it is democrat vs. democrat. Meanwhile, democrats' heads in the shapes of Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are peeking around every street corner with not-so-hushed whispers of a horrible fracture in the party, a fissure that's evolving into a canyon, at the bottom of which media piranhas contemplate how best to tear apart the flesh of the inevitable candidate who will fall to such dark depths. And clearly, there ain't no mountain high enough but the Democratic National Convention that these two candidates will back away from. What's a voter to do?
No one can argue the fact that this is a historical nomination for the democrats. The two candidates left standing and they are both still standing, regardless of what much of the media says both have features that have never existed in a previous president. But when it comes down to it, being the President of the United States is a job position that must be filled every four years. In order to fill this job position, voters must be Equal Opportunity Employers for this country. Unfortunately, it cannot be said that voters are taking this responsibility to heart. Mainstream media has gotten caught in the web of emotion. With this emotion, unnecessary and irrelevant negativity has flocked to both candidates. What happened to journalism ethics and standards? It makes me so angry to see not only the racist rants against Obama on the internet, but so many sexist comments against Clinton go uncalled, falling out of the evening news and into living rooms, where our ears are sick of being subjected to such trash.
In this world swarming with bias, it is important to get the facts straight. Regardless of whether you're pro-Obama or pro-Clinton, know why you have chosen the candidate you are voting for. Be able to name at least three reasons good reasons why you support your chosen candidate. So what are the three biggest issues facing the nation in the 2008 election, and what are the candidates' views? Let's take a look.
The biggest issues that US voters should be paying attention to for the 2008 election are the economy, foreign policy (including views on the Iraq War), and energy /environmental issues. Let's see how Barack Obama approaches these issues.
